When you register a domain, you are obliged to supply an authentic postal address, email account and telephone number as per the policy approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. This information, however, is not kept only by the registrar, but is visible to the public on WHOIS check sites too, so anybody can see your information and a lot of individuals may not be comfortable with that fact. As a result, many domain name registrars have come up with the so-called Whois Privacy Protection service, which hides the domain name registrant’s contact information and upon a WHOIS lookup, people will view the details of the domain registrar, not the domain owner’s. This service is also known as Whois Privacy Protection or Privacy Protection, but all these names refer to the very same service. Today, most of the Top-Level Domains around the world allow Whois Privacy Protection to be enabled, but there are still country-code extensions that don’t support this option.
